Frigid Sea

Evurn opened his eyes to a familiar sight. Wherever they had gone, it was very much like the Glacial Seas. The sky was a pale blue, almost like it was glowing just beyond the dense clouds above them creating a strange hue in the air. Before them was a simple but very rocky island. It was not large at all, and in fact, they could see the other side. There were no houses, no ships, and no obvious particular spots they were supposed to go toward unlike the last place they had went.

As Lorlaam and Evurn walked forward, they scanned their surroundings and kept their staves at the ready. While there were no actual buildings here, there were several large standing stones. There were very similar to the overall island itself. Across the surface of the island, the black stone center and the pebble beaches that surrounded it, were covered in a thin layer of snow. No one had been here in some time, if ever.

As they approached the grouping of large stones, they discovered tiny pools upon the top of each of them. The wind of the icy cold north gusted over the island. With no trees to cover them or rocks to take true cover behind, Evurn closed his robes around his body.

“Damn cold here,” Evurn said. “Colder than the Glacial Seas, and that’s saying something.”

But Lorlaam was distracted, hovering his hand above the water on top of the large standing stones, when suddenly, a small sprite appeared. It was tiny, like a fairy of the woodlands but with a glowing white body with droplets of ice that flew off its wings as it flew around the frozen, harsh, icy environment.

As Evurn moved near Lorlaam, more sprites materialized on top of the rocks. First, there were only four, and then eight, and then at least twenty-two of the tiny sprites fluttered and zipped around them.

"I don't really get our quest here," Lorlaam said. "There are many of these sprites, but what is the point? I do not even see where we might go to obtain an orb."

"I do not, either," Evurn said. "Perhaps that is not an option here. But then again, I see no monster, either. These sprites are not beasts of any kind.”

Evurn noticed that one of the stones did not have a small pool atop it like the others. He took a grip on the top of the stone and pulled himself up to where he could get a better vantage point of their area. For the most part, he saw nothing except flat volcanic rock. There was no obvious tunnel or underground temple. At least at first glance, there was no clue to their path.

It was then from atop another standing stone nearby, an orb appeared. This one was a dark blue sphere, and from the vantage point Evurn had, it would be simple enough to obtain.

"Now we’re having some good luck," Lorlaam said.

Evurn was at a good position to jump and at least strike the orb with his staff.
